Context matters.

So, in order for you to have the context necessary for understanding me & my blog, I offer the following information…

Meta/Worldview Info: (in no particular order)

  • Words have meaning
  • There is such a thing as Truth
  • Truth has been given to us, by God, in the Bible
  • The Bible is the inerrent and infallible Word of God
  • The Bible is the Norma Normans – i.e., the Norm that Norms
  • The Book of Concord (1580) is the Norma Normata – i.e., the Norm that has been Normed
  • The Bible and the Book of Concord (1580) are in total agreement
  • (Orthodox) Lutheranism = (Orthodox) Christianity
  • Relativism & Postmodernism are wrong, damnably so

I plan on operating & writing from this worldview, so don’t be surprised…

Here are some pertinent facts about me:

  • I’m a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) “lifer”
  • I was baptized at Holy Cross (LCMS), Warren (MI) in 1968
  • I attended East Bethlehem (LCMS), Detroit (MI)—K-2
  • I attended St. John (LCMS), Rochester (MI)—3-8
  • I attended Lutheran High School North (LCMS), Mt. Clemens (MI)—9-12
  • I was confirmed at St. John, Rochester (MI) in 1981
  • I graduated from Kalamazoo College (MI) in 1989 with a BA in History
  • I graduated from UNC-Greensboro in 2001 with a MS in Information Systems & Management
  • I am currently employed at Purdue University North Central as the Academic IT Manager
  • My family currently attends Heritage Lutheran Church (LCMS), Valparaiso (IN)
  • I’m currently on the Board of Elders at Heritage
  • In my lifetime, I have attended/been a member at the following LCMS congregations: Holy Cross (Warren, MI), East Bethlehem (Detroit, MI), St. John (Rochester, MI), Advent (Chapel Hill, NC), St. John (Winston-Salem, NC), and Heritage (Valparaiso, IN).

Well, that should be enough context to help get you started. If you have questions and/or want to know more, just ask. I might not let loose with the info, but it never hurts to ask, right? Heheheh!

That’s all for now…

Deb (my wife of 15 years) and I spent the first 6 years of our marriage living in Chapel Hill, and the next 6 years just outside of Winston-Salem. We’ve been in Valparaiso for the past 3 years.

We landed in NC because of my first attepmt at grad school (at UNC-CH). I can’t really say exactly why I chose UNC-CH, other than to say that it made sense at the time… It was a long way from family for us, too — we’re both from Michigan.

NC is a very nice place, and there’s a great deal about the South that I like & appreciate — indeed, there’s a lot to like about NC. I am, however, a midwesterner at heart, so I’m very happy & thankful that we were able to make our way back up to this neck of the woods.
