Syncretism-a-No-No

A great blog entry by Rob over at Beggar’s All, in which Rob ruminates on the question surrounding the current & oft-stated contention that the major monotheistic religions (i.e., Christians, Jews, Muslims) all worship the same god, a.k.a., “the God of Abraham” or “the God of the Bible/Book”.

Let me be very clear & up front in stating: We most certainly do not.

Rob engages in a nice analysis & discussion, and brings some great resources to the discussion table (e.g., Issues, Etc. essays & the like). In the end, though, it really is a simple & clear answer. And it’s an answer that any true (i.e., non-hypocritical or ill-informed) believer of each (and I really dislike using this trendy phrase) faith tradition would/could/should give to the question.

A muslim can’t abide Christ as the Son of God.
A jew doesn’t recognize Christ as the Son of God.
A christian knows, per John 8:18-20, that the only way to know the Father is through the Son.

And I don’t buy the worshipped/known “inadequately” sophistry put forth by the defenders of a certain engaging-in-syncretism-and-unionism-at-Yankee-Stadium LCMS apparatchik.

Nope. The one, true, God is the Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
