Some Musings On CN

Christian News & Herman Otten.

Those 4 words, those 2 names are famous (some would say infamous) in LCMS circles.

I’ve been reading CN for about 4 years now, and I wish I had known about, and had access to, it earlier. It’s not perfect, and I don’t always agree with what Pr. Otten writes or prints. I do, however, have a great deal of respect for him and what he’s accomplished. He provides a service that is, I think, quite necessary in the LCMS’s “big picture.”

Recently, Pr. Warner, over at Spirit & Life (ver 4.0), made a very nice posting (Of Guilt and Association with Christian News) in which he described a recent visit he made to Pr. Otten’s congregation in New Haven, MO in order to make a presentation on his (Pr. Warner’s) Native American mission work. In it he gives a very nice overview of the historical context for his view of CN going into the visit, along with a very good description of the visit to Trinity, New Haven.

I commend Pr. Warner for this posting, and I pray for God’s richest blessings on his mission work.
