Some Good Friday Gems

For your consideration & edification, here are links to two very good postings.

First, FatherDMJ has done us all a service by posting Good Friday Preachment written by Rev. Todd A. Peperkorn. I must echo what FrDMJ wrote, namely that it’s worth the time to read it, because it is that good.

Second, Rev. McCain has posted a very significant & useful essay entitled, “You Are Not Free to Use This Liberty” — Thoughts on Liturgical Uniformity. This is a serious, thoughtful, and necessary essay on the need for liturgical uniformity. It’s meet, right, and salutary; it benefits us; it comforts us; it connects us with the faithful saints who came before us. The lack of liturgical uniformity, desire for unnecessary change, and indeed the outright contempt with which the Historic Liturgy is treated by so many in our synod (and even more in contemporary Lutheranism) has long been a thorn in my side. I’ve railed against it in the past, and I’ll continue to do so in the future. Right now, though, I’ll leave you with the strong admonition to go & read the wisdom by which God (through Rev. McCain) has blessed us.
