Ever wish you were animated?
An intriguing question — Have you ever wished you were animated?
Yup. I’ll admit it. I did.
I grew up rather obsessed with the Peanuts/Charlie Brown universe, with the apex being roundabouts 4th grade. The genius of Charles Schulz has always appealed to me, and I’m pretty sure that it always will. I would’ve jumped at the chance to live in Charlie Brown’s neighborhood, even for a day. Sympathize with Charlie Brown. Talk theology with Linus. Hang with Snoopy & check out his van Gogh. You know, the standard stuff. A simpler time that really wasn’t all that simple…
In later years, I got more involved with the Archie Comics universe. I would’ve really liked to live in Riverdale, and be a part of the gang. Hang with the guys. Play pranks on the ‘Bee. Get a soda at Pop Tate’s. Rescue Betty from the indignity of playing second fiddle to that spoiled brat Veronica.
I’ve enjoyed a great many other cartoons & comic strips over the years, but those are really the only two that I’ve ever wanted to live in and/or be a part of.

The victorious life
If I could write as powerfully & cogently as Jon Ledetroit does (The Difficult Realization that the Christian Life is not Positive…at least here on earth.), then I would go on a blogging sabbatical too! 
Seriously, though, Jon gives lots of good food for thought regarding the tension that exists between the reality of the victorious life and what we actually want it to mean. I’m right there with Jon when he observes:
Everything I have amassed, I like; no I love it. My family, my health, my job and my possessions I have been blessed with these things and I do not want to lose them.
Thank God that I am reminded through proper preaching and orthodox readings that all of this can be taken away from me. It is not mine and moreover it is not good for me.

I can honestly say that there is nothing of me that wants to embrace this theology. I want to live the victorious life. I want my family, goods, honor and reputation to prosper and be protected. I don’t want this stripped away from me. I do not want to be chastened!
Yup, that about sums it up…
