Lack of Cruise-control

Sometimes, it would seem, Satan doesn’t feel the need to be subtle. This article, about Tom Cruise & the Scientology cult, bears this out quite nicely.

It’s too bad we can’t predict when the end will come, because “Cruise as Christ” would surely seem like a pretty clear sign.

A twofer on the 22nd…

January 22, 1917 - President Woodrow Wilson pleaded for an end to war in Europe, calling for “peace without victory.” (By April, however, America also was at war.)

January 22, 1944 - Allied forces began landing at Anzio, Italy.

WDTM? Wilson was an idealistic, weak leader. To most important ways of evaluating his Presidency, he was a failure. Then again, statements of idiocy like “peace without victory” (which pretty much also means “peace without defeat of the non-peaceful evildoer”), or the WWII equivalent of “Peace in our time“, are rightfully doomed to failure and ridicule. The Kingdom of the Left is justified in exercising its God-given power in order to keep order & punish evildoers. Thankfully, the American leaders of WWII better understood this (hence, the acknowledgment of the landing at Anzio…).

[Note: WDTM? = "What does this mean?" --- a fitting Lutheran question that I've appropriated as a statement to replace "I Say:" & "Comment:"...]

January 21, 1908 — New York City prohibited women from smoking in public.

I Say: Should we be outraged that women were oppressed, or pleased that smoking was demonized? :???: It’s just so confusing when causes collide!

January 20, 1942 - Nazi officials held the notorious Wannsee Conference, during which they arrived at their “final solution” that called for exterminating Jews.

I Say: I can sometimes be a skeptic when it comes to history. The writing of History is perhaps the most important of the proverbial “spoils” that goes to the Victors. That said, I now say this — never believe the Historical revisionists & Holocaust deniers. The Holocaust happened. The Jews were persecuted by the Nazis. The concentration camps existed. The “final solution” was indeed proffered and adopted at Wannsee. The Holocaust wasn’t the only evil perpetrated by Hitler & the Nazis, but it certainly was a/the significant component of that evil regime’s “accomplishments”. To deny the existence of the “final solution” is to engage in willful & wanton ignorance. It was a genocide on par with those perpetrated by other monsters of the 20th-century: Stalin’s purges, Mao’s purges, Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge, the Turks & the Armenians, just to name a few.
