AI:6 - Uplift… your wallets

That. Was. AI. GIVES. BACK.

Too bad they gave back by taking extra time & feelings of non-guilt from us.
(Sure, I’m cynical, but there’s just something about this whole self-congratulatory exercise that rubs me the wrong way…)

Knowing ahead of time that the theme was “inspirational songs” allowed me to properly calibrate my expectations, so at least I wasn’t overly disappointed by the toxic levels of schmaltz & cheeze in the performances this week. Singing a Fantasia song as an example of inspiration? Fantasia? Really? Yikes… Now, if say Blake had beat-boxed his way through A Mighty Fortress, well, let’s just say that I would definitely have been inspired!
Jordin proved once again that I am correct in having announced that she is bank to win this whole thing. She will, unless she falls into the abyss of pop-stardom (and I don’t think she will), put all previous winners & popular non-winners to shame (though it would be cool to see Kelly & Carrie raise their games in response to the challenge!).

Melinda was, well, typical MindyDoo - solid, professional, on-pitch, on-message, and still looking good.

Blake. Oh, Blake. I wish you hadn’t chosen that song. It is, theologically speaking (and please excuse my lapse into Luther-esque earthiness) a steaming pile of horse shit (no offense to horses…). Imagine is a humanistic, proto-postmodern diatribe against faith, morality, religion, and ultimately objective Truth. It has a winsome melody masking its pernicious message, much in the way that poison can be made to be sweet & tasty. Frankly, it was out of place on a night of inspiration, because there’s not too much uplifting about considering that there’s no religion or Heaven. Take faith & hope in Jesus away, and all you’re left with is sin. And that won’t inspire us to do anything other than more sin.

Phil (still looking like Martin’s little brother Lex (after having had the family name changed at Ellis Island…)) did a nice enough job, although I certainly agree with the comment that he should’ve stayed closer to a C&W rendition. That’s his niche, not Pop.

Chris was about as good as Chris can be. Sadly, that’s really just damning him with faint praise, ’cause Chris at his best is still a nasally, whiny type of singer.

LaKisha. sigh Kiki, I’m sorry to tell you that making me think about Fantasia, much less singing one of her songs, is a firing offense. You have been eliminated from the race.

The Voting @ Schloß TB:
Mel: Phil (though I told her that if she saw a number for Sanjaya, she could stay up ’til midnight voting for him. Oddly, she didn’t think that was funny… Deb: Blake
ghp: Jordin

Bottom Three: Phil, Chris, LaKisha

Going Home: LaKisha

Thank God for Tivo, as it will help make tonight’s 2 hour results farce & guilt-a-thon tolerable.

Oh how you do enjoy tweaking that girl! I can only imagine how “unfunny” she thought that was!
On a personal note, I’m disappointed that I didn’t speak with you yesterday…I got a call from Indiana asking if my little brother (that excludes clancy from the choices)called and made me screech? I’m dying to know what transpired…Jill is still damaged from your conversation on Monday! Ain’t it grand!
love ya,
big sis

This time I am not even waiting for you to write first. I think that was a terrible thing they did last night to Jordin and to all of the fans. They must have known that the show by itself wouldn’t keep peoples attention the full 2hrs. so they started out with the tease of the “most shocking AI results in history”. I did enjoy listening to Kelly Clarkson and Rascal Flatts. Amazing how old Earth Wind and Fire are…I’m not that old am I? Never mind, don’t answer that. Can’t wait to read your analysis…
love,
big sis

I also do not like “Imagine”, finding it to be one of the most offensive songs ever. The line Nothing to kill or die for, well, isn’t that an admirable goal?

A world of total peace as described by that song could only be a world of absolute tyranny. “Imagine” that!

(Send me an email if you’d like to discuss this more, if it’s too Off Topic for this space.)
