In the past 2 weeks, there’s been a gradual increase in the amount of data (to differentiate it from information) related to the convention. Politics is on the rise…

Included among the deluge:

  • • The blasphemously named JesusFirst PAC (TBNJFPAC) sent out their initial branded mailing, introducing themselves & their political agenda for the LCMS (including their endorsement for the Kieschnick/Diekelman ticket).
  • • TBNJFPAC’s second official mailing, further delineating their political agenda, including their slate for VPs #2-5.
  • • The United Lutheran Mission Association (UMLA) sent a brochure regarding their goal “…To establish traditional Lutheran congregations wherever God opens a door.” The UMLA is an offshoot of two former LCMS congregations, Pilgrim Lutheran, Decatur, IL & Redeemer Lutheran, St. Clair Shores, MI. Redeemer is the congregation currently served by Rev. Jack Cascione, of LutherQuest & Reclaiming Walther fame…
  • • Pres. Kieschnick’s office sent out two mailings regarding the paper sent out by Consensus & Rev. Fred Baue (originally mentioned here). The first mailing promised that all was ok, and that a document investigating the issue would be produced by a review committee of top synodical leaders.
  • • The second mailing from the SP was the actual Convention Delegate Review Committee (appointed by the President of the Synod) Report of May 14, 2007. In general, the report found that things were basically in order, though further (and more time-intensive) examination of the relevant data available was encouraged.
  • • An additional, late report to the convention, that didn’t make it into the workbook — Report of the Resolution 7-02A Committee. This report, and “the appointment of [the] committee [were] mandated by the 2004 convention’s Resolution 7-02A to give further attention to the matter addressed by the resolution, i.e., the authority and responsibility of the Synod’s Board of Directors as defined by the Constitution and Bylaws of the Synod and the laws of the State of Missouri.” I haven’t yet waded through this report, to see how the original resolution’s attempted end-around of the BOD & LCMS Constitution have been addressed; however, I’m sure it’ll be interesting reading…

That brings things all up-to-date, at least as regards mailings.

On a more practical front, I was excited to receive my travel & expenses stipend check from the Indiana District, as its arrival prompted me to finally make my airline reservations. Ah, July in Houston - I can almost taste the humidity now! ;^)
