A Cogent Mélange of Lutheran & Pop-Culture Punditry
Interesting HCSB info
As I mentioned a while back, I just got a copy of the HCSB-based Apologetics Study Bible. Thus far, it’s been quite good. While the ancillary notes (i.e., the apologetics stuff) are not strictly “Lutheran”, they are by and large quite solidly orthodox & useful. The HCSB translation itself is proving to be quite good as well.
For more background-type information about what is behind the HCSB translation, and what went into producing it, you’ll want to check out this summary page (with good comments), and this interview with the general editor of the HCSB.
As a rule, I find translations to be fascinating, both in their history and their philosophical underpinnings. There is an interesting story behind the HCSB, and it’s one that also touches on the KJV, RSV, ESV, NIV, & NASB as well.
