Charleston, SC - the genteel South.

Belles, drawls, and another nice, concise hour of auditions…

Let’s get it started. Hah! Let’s get it started in here…

General Observations:

  • Idol baby #2. Awwwwww!
  • Charleston was (as edited) quite lacking in talent…
  • Theme for the night: pleasantly lackluster…

The Good:

  • Lyndsey Goodman - Air Force pilot & very hot chick. Good, albeit nervous, voice. The judges got this one wrong. With all of the drek they let through, Lyndsey certainly deserved a golden ticket. This was the biggest injustice since Scooter Girl got dissed in AI:3. Shame on the judges…
  • Nobody else - Like I said, Charleston was all about being nice, not about being good…

The Bad:

  • Raysharde Henderson - Winner, “The ‘fro is back!” sub-group. The black Clay Aiken? More like (looks-wise) an “Off The Wall” Michael Jackson.
  • Joshua Boson - Winner, “Stay off the drugs, kids!” sub-group. Wow. That was… wow. No voice training? The hell you say! The best “artistes”? Rigged? Ok, step away from the audition room…
  • Aretha Codner - Winner, “Delusional is too mild a word…” sub-group. Big (but bad) voice was still smaller than the (yes, I’ll say it) rack. The only thing bigger was her delusional belief in her “talent”.

Honorable Mention:

  • DeAnna Prevatte - Winner, “Southern girls rock, but don’t do ‘em wrong!” sub-group. Another waitress from Albamarle (ala Kelly Pickler). Great spirit, with an undercurrent of anger. She seems like a decent girl, even despite the barely-under-the-surface seething. She didn’t deserve to advance, but was still entertaining.
  • Randy & Crystal - Winners, “love blooms amongst geeks on the AI message boards” sub-group. Cute geeks in love. How can you not like ‘em? Well, aside from them not being able to sing, that is. Still, a cute couple & cute story. The audition guru, I think, has lost his message board cred.
  • Oliver Highman - Winner, “Baby daddy” sub-group. A little too much vibrato hurt the audition. In a big way. Nice story, what with Emma Grace, but he rightly didn’t make it through. I’m shocked (as was the Territorial Wife) both that a 1-day-old was allowed out, and that mom was willing & able to travel, walk, & go on national TV…

The Indifferent:

  • Michelle & Jeffrey Lampkin - Winner, “big, bad & larger than life itself” sub-group. The singing wasn’t all that bad, surprisingly enough, but it’s nowhere near as good as their overall showmanship & entertainment value. Good for them on making it through to Hollywood!
  • Amy Flynn - Simon’s look as soon as he heard the word “Abstinence”? Priceless! A nice voice, but lacking confidence, and thus power. Young & cute. Randy’s right - “mad potential”. Simon, too - “potentially annoying to some”.
  • London Weidberg - Nice, sympathy/empathy-generating story. Very good looking girl. Nice voice. Barring a slip-up in Hollywood, I think she’s a strong candidate for the semifinals (but still not good enough to be in tonight’s The Good…). She seems like a normal girl, though, and that might play against her.

Total for Charleston: 23 golden tickets.

23? And all they could cobble together was the pleasantly lackluster crapfest they showed us? Feh!

Up next: Omaha!
