AI:7 - Here’s your Sweet 16

31 million votes? Feh!

70’s medley? Eh. It was pleasant enough, I guess.

I think that both the boys and (especially) the girls are very evenly matched. There’s not a whole lot of difference between the “best” and the “worst”.

There’s a slightly larger spread between the guys, with David Archuleta being the clear top dawg. Castro, Johns, & Cook are the next tier. Ever so slightly behind them are Chikezie, Hernandez, & Carrico. Bringing up the rear are Menard & Yeager.

Eliminated Guys: Jason Yeager & Robbie Carrico

No argument with either one of them. It was their time, and neither was finalist material. I am slightly surprised, though, that the Poseur, Jr. got zapped instead of Luke.

The girls are bunched up a little more tightly. There’s no equivalent to Archuleta on their side. The closest is Carly Smithson, but she’s not quite there yet. The top tier girls include Carly, Brooke, Syesha, & Ramiele. Just a tiny bit behind them, the middle consists of Asia’h, Alaina, & Alexandréa. The bottom group has Kady, Kristy, & Amanda in it. The thing is, there could be a lot of movement between the top two groups between now & the finals.

Eliminated Girls: Alexandréa Lushington & Alaina Whitaker

Wow…

I’m not pleased by Amanda staying & Alexandréa leaving. I guess we get to thank VoteForTheWorst.com for that. It doesn’t bother me that much, as I would not have automatically put her the finals.

Alaina’s elimination, on the other hand, is sadly surprising to me. I had her pegged for the finals. My heart goes out to her, as she seems like a genuinely nice & sweet young lady. I also think she truly got blindsided, and did not expecting the ziggy at all. It was nice to see the show of solidarity from the rest of the girls in helping her get through her farewell song. America got this one wrong, in a way they rarely do in the semifinals. A pox upon America for such blatant bias against an innocent food segregationist!

(Trivia Note: in this current setup, Clay Aiken wouldn’t have been a finalist — it took the judges bringing him back as a “wildcard” 2nd chance contestant for him to get voted through to the finals!)

March 11 - The 12 AI:7 finalists get to sing Lennon/McCartney. I can only fear that there will be some epic train-wrecks during that show.

Idol Gives Back. Again. Meh.

I saw Chikezie and the guy after him (Cook, I think). Liked them both a lot. If you put Chikezie in the bottom tier, wow.

Actually he would have been top 12 without the wildcard, if they had gone with the top 3 vote getters in each group. That year they had 4 groups of 8. He was in the top 3 of his group but at the time they only put through the top 2. He was in the group with Ruben and Kim Locke. Those 3 eventually came in #1 #2 and #3.

@Pr.: While Chikezie isn’t in my top-tier, neither is he in my bottom-tier of guys. I just happen to like Jason Castro & David Cook more than Eze. Given the remaining guys, I’d put Chikezie in the finals over Luke Menard & Danny Noriega.

@Dana: You’re probably right. My main point was that America gets stuck on stupid. Clay obviously deserved to be in the AI:2 finals (and should have won!), but things were structured such that it took a corrective act on the part of the judges/producers to save the day. Fortunately, this season’s talent level seems to be deep enough to weather semifinal-round mistakes, and still yield a top-notch field of finalists (providing there aren’t more mistakes next week!).

I guess he stunk last week, but this week Chikezie was so good that I wish he would have sung the whole night.

Let’s get over this “Clay didn’t win” thing. He won. The phones were totally screwed and in oh so many ways. It has been “revealed” that Clay, who not only was never in the bottom three from the time he rejoined the show, his vote count was so much higher than than any other contestants that the outcome was clear to Clive. And since they were pimping Reuben, well, that just couldn’t happen. Well where is Reuben now? Oh yeah. Appearing on a guest shot on AI7-Gives Crap-er-Back.
Clive’s way of saying “sorry I we cancelled your contract?” Should have gone with Clay guys.
2nd Just because.
Why Clay won.
Charisma. Wit. Ability to take suggestions and use them. He never talked back.Humility.Nevery pitchy.Great song choice.
Unicef spokesman,On Broadway, another album coming out, sold out tours. Yup. Total failure.
3rd
Jordin Sparks-Cute. So what? I can still hear Melinda singing Home. I saw the Wiz on tv the other day and had to play Melinda’s version back another 10 times. Marvelous. Yamin Elliot. Bo Bice. These are the people I remember. LaToya London. Whoever dialed those phones, didn’t buy those records. Clive-wake up.

Kartoff-amazing that there are still a few people out there who still think Ruben ‘beat’ Clay, isn’t it! LOL (But less numbers as time goes on!) Most of Clay’s fans, and I think many of Ruben’s smart ones, knew what happened that night with the one measly phone line and just two hours to vote. (Hey, those who think Ruben still won, how come the next year the phone lines were increased to 2 AND 3 PER contestant and the voting time increased to 4 HOURS????) Two producers of AI even admitted that Clay received 80 PERCENT of the vote every single week he was on!! The Wildcard was cooked up to bring Clay back-they knew a humongous mistake was made!!! And…hasn’t Clay proved ‘A Thousand Different Ways’ that he was the true IDOL and Ruben has proven he is far from one??? As for this year; David A., as unfair as it is that he was put though, will win and will capture the ‘tween multiple-per-voter-votes.(No, media, more people do NOT vote in AI as in Presidential elections. Maybe 800,000 vote-but multiple times) He will be the male ‘Hannah Montana’ for a year or two. Other than that-nope, don’t see any other contestant this year that is close to being an ‘Idol’. As Clay’s fans coined 5 years ago-and how much truer the term has come to be over the years-IDOL FOUND, GAME OVER!!
