Peanuts___Impending_Doom

Ah, the feeling of realized impending doom… I know it well.
On the positive side, these reruns of Peanuts truly do show the genius that Charles M. Schulz possessed — these strips hold up better than most contemporary comics page offerings!

Everything’s Archie

One commonality between the childhood years of big sis & myself (aside from the obvious ones of parentage & family/gene pool quirks… ) was a fondness for Archie Comics. Which is quite fascinating, as there were many pronounced differences caused by the 10 year gap between the two of us — her childhood-to-young-adulthood (1965-75) was very different time than that of mine (1975-85), at least in terms of cultural & sociological states of America. But Archie spoke to us both. (note to big sis: I still remember getting my first double digests at the corner drugstore in Croswell, and then reading them up at the lake…)

I still like Archie & the gang from Riverdale (I’m a Betty guy!), and I find it oddly gratifying that my daughter has begun working her way through my collection of Archie Double Digests (I’m not ashamed to admit that I subscribed to all four double digests for at least the 10 years of the 1990’s…), as Riverdale is a generally safe & comforting place to visit.

Vanity Fair has just published a very interesting article about the Archie-verse, in case you want to learn a little bit more about the history & general attitude that has informed Archie Comics.

Good stuff.

Now here’s a comic worth reading

Ink Pen is a great comic on it’s own merits. But when it weaves in an askew take on my beloved Calvin & Hobbes and mentions the good Dr. Luther… well, that’s a sign of something special!

If this had only been known earlier…

See, now, if this had been realized/figured out earlier, I think blogging would’ve taken off much, much sooner!
